Community

Located in southwestern Vermont, the Arlington School District includes Arlington Memorial High School & Middle School and Fisher Elementary School. The district provides educational services primarily to the towns of Arlington and Sandgate as well as several other sending towns which have a high school choice option for residents. The two school buildings, playing fields and the town’s public library are situated on the 10-acre campus. Arlington School District is part of the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union.

• Arlington Memorial High School graduated its first class in 1925. 

• Comprehensive small rural public high school and middle school, Grades 6 - 12.

• 106 students in Grades 9 - 12 and 91 students in Grades 6 - 8. 

• 31 students in the class of 2027. 

• Accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges.

 

Curriculum

Arlington Memorial High School offers an eight-period schedule, with some classes meeting daily and some meeting on a rotating basis. Core classes are year-long. All of our sciences are lab sciences. Some AP courses are scheduled as double periods.  Students who participate in our middle school Accelerated Program can earn up to four high school credits by the end of eighth grade.

Flexible Pathways

• Southwest Tech - our local CTE partner that offers our students a variety of technical programs and industry-recognized credentials. 

• Vermont Dual Enrollment Program - Juniors and seniors are eligible to take two free college courses at Community College of Vermont, Bennington College, and other Vermont colleges.  Only college courses that are covered by Vermont Dual Enrollment vouchers (maximum of two) appear on student transcripts.

• Work-Based Learning and other flexible pathways are also available.

 

Grading & Ranking

• Courses are graded numerically on a 100-point scale. 

• GPAs are unweighted.

• Class rank is calculated for the top six students only.  

• Class rank is weighted, with honors, AP, and college dual enrollment courses receiving extra weight.  AP and dual enrollment courses are weighted more heavily than honors courses.

For students who transfer to our school, this amount is pro-rated to 8 hours per year.

 

Graduate Information

Typically, 60 percent of AMHS students are college bound.  About 50 percent enroll at four-year colleges and 10 percent attend two-year colleges.  The non-college bound students begin military service, enroll in career/trade education, or enter employment.  In the past several years, colleges that have accepted our students include:
